Boston

Certainly the most historic city in the country.

Boston Real Estate

Living history meets the 21st century in this charming city on the harbor.

Boston is certainly the most historic city in the country, but it has also evolved into an urban oasis of high tech, high finance, higher education, diversity, and upscale urban living. There's truly something for everyone in Boston, a place where the Patriots fan yelling next to you in Foxboro may well be the financial advisor you meet with on Monday morning. One of the great things about Boston is that the city proper has managed to maintain its community-centric neighborhood vibe as it has grown and expanded into the suburbs.

There are many communities within Boston, each with its own personality. Jamaica Plain and Back Bay are two favorites. Back Bay begins in the heart of Boston, near Boston Common, and reaches toward Fenway Park. This is city living at its finest. Jamaica Plane is slightly farther out, and this tight-knit community is known for its green spaces, family-owned businesses, and indie restaurants. Seaport is another favorite, especially for those seeking a high-end, luxury lifestyle. No matter where you choose to live in Boston, you’ll find endless amenities and entertainment.

Things to Love

It would take days to list all of the things there are to love about Boston, but here are the highlights according to locals:

  • True melting pot of languages and culture—one of the most diverse cities in the U.S.
  • Charming and convenient—the metro area covers only about 48 square miles of history and the airport is just over the bridge
  • Beating heart of American professional sports champions, from Bill Russell to Tom Brady
  • Swan boats
  • Beacon Hill’s cobblestoned streets

Local Lifestyle

Boston is a big city, so the lifestyles are as varied as the population. Some Bostonians go to the theatre, the symphony, or a gallery opening most nights, while others play rec league sports, coach Little League, and hang with their friends at neighborhood bars. Many locals don't pigeonhole their hobbies and friends, which is a benefit of such a diverse urban environment. In short, pearls mix well with Doc Martens here.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Where to find a late supper after the symphony, or grab a quick bite before you head over to the Gahden for a Celtics game? Legal Sea Foods is an iconic seafood restaurant with locations around the city, but the Copley Place location is superb. If you haven't been, they serve upscale seafood and steaks in a fine dining atmosphere. If you want a dress-up night out with views of the harbor while you enjoy your filet, Mastro's Ocean Club sits right on the edge of Fan Pier
When you're in the mood for luxury shopping, look no further than Newbury Street for the best in high-end designers—Armani, Cartier, van Cleef and Arpels, and Loro Piana dot the street among many other retailers. Between Newbury Street and Copley Place (where you’ll find Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Golden Goose, Dior, Moncler, and Tods, among others), you'll find everything you'll ever need.

Things to Do

Finding things to do in Boston is indeed a challenge; there's simply so much to appeal to everyone! There are a few things that you should definitely do not just once, but make part of your routine. Taking in one Red Sox game at Fenway Park, for example—could you really only go just once? Then there's Boston Common, a city park that boasts almost 600 years of history amid its gardens, athletic fields, the Frog Pond, and the famous swan boats next door at the Public Garden. Also in the heart of the city is the North End, where the Freedom Trail takes you past Paul Revere's house and the old North Church.

Not to be outdone by Nashville and Burning Man, Boston hosts the Boston Calling Festival every Memorial Day weekend at the Harvard Athletic Complex. Past lineups have included Travis Scott, the Avett Brothers, Janelle Monäe, and Nine Inch Nails.

Schools

Spoiler alert—Harvard isn't actually in Boston; it's across the river in Cambridge. Even without “Hahvaahd” in its zip codes, Boston is home to some of the best education in the world:
